plaster

Plaster is nothing new! Plaster has been a staple in design since the Roman Empire. and it’s a design element that has been utilized and embraced throughout the years! I am seeing new ways of utilizing plaster almost every day! I have seen it used on the hood over the oven, the bathroom shower, a fireplace, etc. There are infinite ways of working with this ancient method and modernizing it!

Plaster is a quality feature to interweave into your designs because it adds texture and dimension! It also creates movement which excites the eye. Why stare at a boring flat wall when you can stare at one with texture?

durability

Knowing how long plaster has been around, it’s no surprise to find out that plaster is incredibly durable to use. This material has been known historically to be eco-friendly! Once plaster has been applied, the walls become more durable due to the chemical reaction that takes place when water escapes the plaster mixture. Plaster walls are known to be more durable than drywall.

expertise

Plaster is especially special because you can lay it down flat in a shower or create a reeded texture on a fireplace! However, not all plaster is equal. Only Venetian plaster, tadelakt, and pastellone plaster can be used in showers or wet areas. It is crucial to be mindful of bringing in an expert when considering your plaster project. Plastering can be expensive depending on the project because it requires a skilled professional to get the job done correctly.

plastered lighting

Experimenting with plaster can be very exciting, but if you’re not ready to commit to plaster on your walls or floors just yet, that’s entirely okay! An easy and less committal way to integrate plaster is through light fixtures. This addition will bring so much individuality and character into your home!
