2023 Trends to Expect
Interior design trends are changing and adapting all the time! That’s what keeps it engaging because everyone has a different way of mixing design trends and putting their stamp on them! I believe 2023 will have many new trends in store for us. I anticipate seeing more color and detailed carpentry, including mixing of woods and so much more! Here are a few of my 2023 interior design predictions!
Color
Color is having a moment in so many different ways, many of my upcoming projects have introduced color through tile, wallpaper, and furniture, and I can not get enough of it! I think that color will always be present in designs, but there might be waves where it's more subtle and waves where we see it used in bolder applications. I have already seen many beloved designers showcase their use of color this year, and I can not wait to see more of it in 2023!
intricate wood details
I have always advocated for custom cabinetry because it will transform your space and make it incredibly special! I can not wait for my 2023 projects to be complete because there are so many projects with detailed carpentry going into them. And I’m not the only one. I’ve seen many designers play with intricate wood details, whether it’s adding a curve or a unique kitchen cabinet pull. I believe this trend will have a shining moment this upcoming year!
mixing woods
As you probably know by now, I am a sucker for some cool wood detailing! Mixing woods can be intimidating, but when done right, it's extremely captivating to me. I think the key to it is to go for it! In my upcoming Santa Monica Sunrise Project, I am beyond excited about the custom tv console because we have a stunning combination of walnut and white oak, and it’s going to be superb! I also like to mix wood when I source furniture for a room. I believe if you have a wood that is more prevalent than the other, that works well. Incorporate the other wood color through other materials like a piece of art that would have the same tones as that wood.
vintage
If you have ever set foot in the Santa Monica Proper Hotel, you may have noticed all the unique vintage pieces of furniture throughout the lounge areas. This is the perfect example of how vintage furniture can impact a space. I don’t foresee vintage ever going out of style. Incorporating vintage instantly adds character and soul to any room. I love vintage furniture because it’s a sure way to make a space feel more unique, but most importantly the sustainable design qualities, and the short lead times are always a major plus when sourcing vintage.
