Breakfast Nook Makeover

A Breakfast Nook Made of Dreams

When we bought our house, I fell in love with the fact that it had a breakfast nook. I've always dreamed of waking up on the weekends, and being able to spend my morning in a little breakfast nook, with my family, as we look out the window, and chat about how we would like to spend our day. If I told myself at age twenty five, that in just five years I would be celebrating my thirtieth birthday doing just that, I would have never believed myself!! How did I get this lucky? Well, its all about hard work, lots of love, and family. I believe if you put those things first, good things will happen!! If you are curious to know how I ended up in Malibu, stay tuned because I will dedicate a post on that soon.

Now lets talk about what inspired our little breakfast nook. At first, I really longed for one of those amazing, little breakfast nook's with a cozy booth, like the one shown here by edbdesigns

However, after taking some measurements of our space, and doing some research, I found that our space was rather large for bringing that idea to life. Not to mention our windows in that area are set really low to the ground, which wouldn't allow me to  install a floating booth table like I had wanted. In a way, I'm glad I didn't go this route because, all though I love a good rustic farm house, those vibes are just not present in our new home.

Our home was built in 1979, and has been remodeled several times. However, this time it's our turn to renovate it, and my husband and I have decided to stick to a more modern approach. We both agreed that the first thing that had to go in our new home, was the terra-cotta tile, and the old shaggy carpet. So before we moved in, we splurged and choose to have these beautiful european white oak hard wood floors by Provenza installed. We went with the fossil stone wood, in the old world collection, and we haven't looked back since.

This was an immediate game changer, and the new floors completely transformed our home. Once the floors were installed, I could not wait to design the rest of the breakfast nook. Matt and I decided that we needed to find the perfect little bistro table, and thats exactly what we did. Our table is from CB2, one of my absolute favorite furniture stores! The table is marketed as an outdoor table, but when we saw it in person at the store, we knew it would be perfect for our little breakfast nook indoors.

Black and Gold are really trending right now when it comes to interior decor, so I loved that this table incorporated those colors. However, what I love most about this table is the white marble mosaic table top! Its just the epitome of chic, am I right? We get so many compliments on it. I think it's safe to say, it was an investment piece worth the price!

After we decided to buy the table, we were in pursuit of finding two black chairs that would pair perfectly with it. I spent a good amount of time searching for the perfect chairs, trying to find a cheaper option, but in the end we could not help returning to CB2 for these perfect chairs

I was then tempted to buy this Monetrosso Pendent  light from Lulu & Georgina,  but since we had already splurged on the table, and chairs, we decided to go with this pendent light from Wayfair for only $69! And I'm so happy we did, because we get so many compliments on the light, and it seems to really complete our little breakfast nook.

I'm so pleased with the way everything turned out. This is by far my favorite place in the house now. It's where I begin each day, eating breakfast with the girls, and where I end each day usually sharing a glass of vino with Matt as we talk about our day.
