I am so excited to be a guest participant in the One Room Challenge this Spring. I have been viewing this design challenge for the past few years now, and I am always so inspired by all the beautiful rooms that come out of this amazing organization. Lately, I’ve been busy with client projects, which is why I left it until week two to sign up. But better late than never right?!
For those of you who do not know about the One Room Challenge, It is this community of designers, who sign up to participate in designing a room within a six week time frame. “ The One Room challenge™ will provide participants with a supportive, enthusiastic forum in which to share the process of transforming a room. The ORC is not a competition, but rather a celebration of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas.” - The ORC.
So, what room will I be designing you ask? Well, I’m excited to share with you, that I will be giving my daughters Poppy, and Pixie a fresh and updated space to call their own. Currently, the girls share a room. Half of which, was furniture from Poppy’s old room, and the other half, an old crib (which doesn’t match) that Pixie has nearly out grown.
Their current room is not something I am proud of. When we moved into our home almost two years ago, we combined Poppy’s and Pixie’s room together, and the mismatching furniture has been bothering me ever since. Oh and those black curtains were there when we moved in, and were quite nice for Pixie’s nap. But now that she is getting older, I think I will upgrade the curtains, and curtain rod to something a little more modern and feminine.
So, to say I am excited to give the girls an updated room, is a total understatement. I have been wanting to do this ever since we moved in, but I figured I should wait till Pixie was ready for a twin size bed to do so, and I am so happy that time is now.
Inspired by some amazing wallpaper from Drop it Modern, I have decided to hand paint a mural on the girls wall. I did a mock up in photoshop of what I would like it to look like, so I can draw from my own inspiration when I actually go to paint it. Since we already have a bed, night stand, and dresser, I am simply going to buy another identical bed to match, and add a pink rug, velvet pillows, some fresh bedding, fun artwork, new curtains, and a few accessories. This should be fun! But I better go start purchasing some of these items, so that I have them in time for the final reveal in just five weeks from now! xXx Lizzie
