ORC Week Two// Decisions + Ordering

Week two of the One Room Challenge, is going quite smoothly considering I only signed up for the ORC this week. Thankfully I have chosen a rather easy room to make over, compared to some of the other talented participants who are going for kitchen and. bathroom renovations.

This week I came up with a plan to refresh my daughter’s Poppy and Pixie’s room. You can see the mood board for the project here if you happened to miss it. I also started ordering most of the items that I needed for the girls room, and I created a mock up of what I want my wall mural to look like. I did this in photoshop, and I’m really hoping I can translate this to the paint brush. It’s a bit risky, but I think I can do it! In the end it’s only paint right?!

I’ve been obsessed with everything Block Shop Textiles makes, ever since I discovered them a few years back. So I’m pretty excited that I finally have a place to put some of there artwork up. I’ve selected two prints, which will compliment the shapes and colors in the wall mural. I think these are the perfect fit, because they are quite sophisticated yet still playful when paired with the rest of the decor in the room. I have a feeling they will be in the girls room for years to come, which is exactly what I was hoping for. A big girl room that I won’t have to change in a few years.

I’ve also been loving everything that comes out of the MoMA Design store. If you don’t know about the Moma Design Store, I’ll fill you in on a little secrete. It’s an exceptionally curated store that is founded on the historical relationship with The Museum of Modern Art. They carry everything from original art prints, to kitchen ware, to jewelry, to home accessories, and framed prints as well. That’s where I found the Georgia O’Keeffe Poppies framed print, which I ordered for the girls room. I thought this would be the perfect addition to the room, seeing as my oldest daughter is named Poppy, so anything poppy related we love! But aside from that, the picture is gorgeous, it has that extra pop of color that I was looking for, and it’s also sophisticated while still being playful at the same time. I think it’s another piece that we will keep for years to come.

Since those two pieces were a bit pricey (for my budget at least) I decided to save some money in other areas like the beautiful rug I found from Urban Outfitters, choosing to hand paint the mural vs.wallpaper, and the table lamp from France and Sons. All of which I think are still insanely cute, for the prices.

Next week I think I will take a crack at painting the wall mural. I also want to add a shelf and hanging rod inside the closet, might even paint that pink if the hubs approves. I also need to find the perfect bedding, as well as some curtains, and curtain rods. Until then my friends!

P.S. Don’t forget to check out all of the other fabulous participants in the ORC here.
